STEP 25 – STRESS AND MEMORY

September 21, 2019

Stress can also have a negative effect on memory and cognition. It affects the ability to encode new memories and retrieve new information.

This is why, when we are stressed, we may find it difficult to recall where we just set our car keys down, or why our minds go blank when we are about to take a test or make a presentation at school or work.

The reason it becomes harder to learn new information or recall things that we previously remembered is, again, the release of excessive amounts of cortisol in the body. Cortisol binds itself to receptors in the hippocampus and the amygdala—the areas of the brain responsible for memory and recall.

If the problem is addressed in a timely manner, it does not cause any permanent damage, and memory and recall are restored to regular functioning. But if stress is not resolved and the cortisol remains attached to these receptors, it can cause them to deteriorate, leading to permanent damage.

If you’re applying Essential Oils to reduce stress and cortisol levels in the body, you’re already doing well. But there are additional oils that work for enhancing brain health and the ability to learn and retain new information.

• Frankincense

• Sandalwood

• Cedarwood

CEDARWOOD is an Essential Oil that has been used for memory and learning for thousands of years. Its documented use can be found in Indian, Tibetan, and Egyptian cultures.

It is also mentioned over 40 times in the text of the Bible.

CEDARWOOD contains the highest amount of sesquiterpenes, a group of hydrocarbons found in Essential Oils responsible for stimulating the limbic system in the brain to help us naturally overcome stress and enhance memory.

MEMORY BOOST DIFFUSER BLEND RECIPE

• 2 drops Frankincense
